In 1920, brothers Luigi and Francesco Marini, back from the war, organised the first passenger transport in the town of Treviglio. Driven by entrepreneurial spirit and technical skill, the Marini brothers adapted surplus military trucks for passenger transport, laying the foundations for the future S.A.I. Treviglio srl. The business opportunity that gave rise to the first public transport line came from the large flow of pilgrims travelling from Milan to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Caravaggio.
Within a short time the fleet grew to 30 vehicles with as many drivers dedicated to passenger transport, vehicle rental and taxi service for private routes. Later the company set up line services to carry workers to the factories of the Linificio in Villa d'Almè, Cassano and Fara Gera d'Adda, and to Pirelli, Falk and Magneti Marelli in Milan.
Under the agreements of the companies in the consortia managing local public transport in the Province, SAI operates 2.1 million bus/km in the South sub-network, equal to 45.5% of the service.
